The Language Exchange Program

Are you an adult who already has some ability in English or a foreign language but would like to further sharpen your skills? FaithAction International House has a Language Exchange program that pairs English speakers with speakers of foreign languages.  The pairs meet weekly in a neutral location and spend half of their time together conversing in English and the other half conversing in the foreign language.  The program is free and is ideal for those who have the basics of the other language and wish to improve their conversational skills.

We are now seeking people who would be interested in this unique volunteer opportunity!  All interested should contact Ryan Nilsen at RNilsen@faihouse.org or call 379-0037 ext 1# and plan to attend an orientation session with their partner at FaithAction before beginning their weekly meetings.

Language Conversation Clubs and Classes!

ArabicClassIf you are interested in practicing your Spanish or French language skills now, please join us in one of the following free conversation clubs!

¡Hablemos! (Let’s Talk!) Club de Conversación en Español – The 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month from 7:00pm to 8:30pm at FaithAction International House.

Come when you can to chat about anything from personal stories and cultures, to food and cooking, to trips and hobbies, all with others seeking to practice their Spanish.  Club meetings ARE FREE, although there may be some meetings at places like restaurants or coffee shops with the opportunity to eat while practicing the language.  Sara Poole leads the conversations, and all levels of Spanish and English speaking skills are welcome and encouraged!

Parlons! (Let’s Talk!) Groupe de Conversation en Francais! – Tuesdays from 5:30pm to 7:00pm at FaithAction International House.

Come when you can to discuss a variety of topics in French. Club meetings ARE FREE, and Mimi Furaha, a Congolese native, leads the conversations.

We also have the following language classes currently underway: Beginning Spanish (Daytime), Beginning Spanish (Evening), Intermediate Spanish (Daytime), Beginning Arabic, Beginning and Intermediate French, and Beginning and Intermediate Mandarin Chinese. Our language classes typically cost $65 for a total of 18 hours of instructions over 9 to 12 weeks, depending on the schedule of the class. 2008 Citizenship Class

Registration Open for 2010 Citizenship Class!

We’re currently recruiting students for this class. If you’re interested, contact Ryan Nilsen at 336-379-0037 ext. 1# or by email at RNilsen@faihouse.org.

In order to help cover the cost of materials used in this class, tuition is $10 per person and registration is now open. The class will meet at FaithAction International House (705 N. Greene St.  Greensboro, NC 27401).

Those taking this class must be eligible to take the citizenship exam and must be proficient enough in English to participate in a class that is taught exclusively in English. One of our teachers has recently taken the test and become a United States citizen herself, so she will provide a valuable perspective to other immigrants and refugees on going for their final interview and exam. Our last citizenship class was a huge success, and we had students from a variety of countries including Cuba, Russia, Mexico, and Sudan.
